TAJ MAHAL

With a jazz pianist for a father and a gospel singer for a mother, Taj Mahal grew up surrounded by music. Taj formed his first band, Rising Sons, with Ry Cooder in the mid-1960's and quickly obtained a recording contract

with Columbia Records. Taj launched his solo career in 1968, and continues recording his distinct music today. Taj is a multi-instrumentalist and fuses sounds from Cajun, gospel, Hawaiian, African, Caribbean, reggae and bluegrass into his own remarkable sound.
